Purpose of meeting Discuss 2-year goals of Tech Committee

Bennett, Janet Brinkop, Sue Czaikowski, Al Coleman, Marian Miller, Jim Skeen,
and Carolyn Wittman.
Janet handed out a detailed set of recommendations for long-term technology goals, with a focus on the ESL program. We used this as a foundation for our subsequent discussion of 2-year goals.
Brainstorming: 2 year goals (not in any particular order)
Lesson plans that involve use of DVD's & VCR's & computers
15 laptops on carts for use at satellite sites
Articulated computer classes
Articulation & coordination within ESL classes, re use of technology/computers in the curriculum
Get more labs
Purchase more software for ESL program (for example, LiveAction English, English for All, etc.)
How-to classes in Voc-Ed, with focus on Latino Community (i.e., how to buy a computer, set it up, maintain a computer, select/install an ISP, etc.)
Develop community-access lab for drop-in use of computer labs
Acquire/use DVD players
EL Civics unit development, particularly for health & employment
Develop "Coach" teachers
Voc Ed-- look for $$ and resources sourced apart from ESL programs
Ongoing teacher training
At the next meeting, we'll prioritize this list. We intend to pass it out to all teachers for their comment.
Action Items
Carolyn: Expland district email distribution list to include non-Sequoia style email addresses, so that people can receive notifications of workshops and seminars via their regular email addresses.
Jim & Janet: Revise Teacher Survey, given our experience with this year's version. The revised version will be used for a resurvey in the Spring of 2004.
